Grindstone Art is a one-person design studio in the darkest recesses of Sheffield’s industrial district, amongst factories, workshops & machines. This city is a perfect breeding ground for the alienation, darkness & noise which drive us to scream in the night, the fuel for Metal drips from every leaking pipe & overflowing storm drain. Chain-link, barbed wire & spiked fence fortresses are the whole world in this Metal prison. It is little wonder the mind seeks solace in violent sounds. In this solace, we find Grindstone Art.
Interests

Since the IX project finished, I've been sorting out promotional bits and web stuff - making cards, banners, avatars and all those things. Here's a summary of the New Things:

Grindstone Art is now on Twitter: twitter.com/GrindstoneArt / grindstoneart

Here's my new avatar for Twitter & DeviantArt, which I'll also use when I get round to bothering people on forums and such, with a detail from Hamerex' Rites of Passage album artwork from 2011.

GSA Twitter Avatar

Here's a contact card using a variant of the same detail. I call this the Burton Card because I think he looks a lot like legendary grumpy bugger Richard Burton. I'll get some printed when I can find somewhere that does contact cards on the cheap.

This is the Twitter background banner featuring a detail from Hamerex' IX album cover illustration:

Last week my friend and fellow Sheffield artist/musician/poet Rowan posted an interview with me on his website about art and music.

"It's the illustrator's job to make a visual work which suits the music. The best illustration doesn't just fit with the music, it adds a new dimension to it. The moods expressed in really beautiful music tend to be extremes of joy or pain, just as in beautiful art. I don't have a lot of time for the moderate or mundane, and working to, or for, music which explores extreme emotions is an excellent way to bring that out."

Thanks for watching my art, Keira, I appreciate it!  You've got some cool art, and I like how it relates to your surroundings. :)  ~Paul

No worries - I previously added your page with a different account a while ago (this one is more specialised) & was considering using some of your stock as reference but didn't in the end. I promised you a look at the final piece anyway, so it's here if you're interested: grindstoneart.deviantart.com/a…

Looks like you're in my neck of the woods quite often - lots of pictures form Yorkshire & Derbyshire (I'm in Sheffield) - I didn't know there was a Sandal Castle until I saw your recent pictures so I'll have hop on the train for a look some time.

Keep clicking that shutter, I love your work!

I live in Wakefield (not actually in, but very close), it was very interesting to see your rendition of it as the 8th circle of hell lol Can't wait to see what you do to Leeds ;) Any chance of a couple of tickets to see Hamerex... a bit of an old rocker myself and always up for breaking my neck when the opportunity calls... No probs whatever m8 I might still call in if we got some spare cash it being that time of year. Thanks very much for letting me know what you've done, I do hope you'll continue to reference my stuff and drop me a line if and when you do. It's a great pleasure to see it used so well :D

They don't usually do ticketed gigs, they play the Snooty Fox & other Wakefield venues quite often & I see them if I can when they play in Sheff. Their tour date page is here: www.hamerex.com/tour-dates

I don't think they have anything lined up til next year apart from the last couple of gigs on there.

Cheers for the Watch & Fav! I'll keep you posted if I make use of your stock. I did a photo tour of Wakey when I was planning this album cover, I'll have to upload some of my reference shots.

Leeds eh? Hmmm... that's an interesting idea.
